School programme for youth at risk
The school programme for youth at risk is conducted by the Riga Addiction Prevention Centre (RAPC).
Access path/Ways of referral
- School asks for help after drug/alcohol related incidents,
- School director/other staff areinformed about programs. If they regardit useful, they form groups.
- Children's home
- Personal invitations by RAPC social workers to students to get support in typical youths problems
- Youths who smoke, use alcohol and could start to experiment with drugs. In addition they are truants and teachers can not cope with them
Objectives of the project
- To change behaviour of the target group

- To inform about negative consequences of substance use
Elements of the offer
- Being noticed in educational institutions

- Educational institutions form groups of students
- Work with the group (10-12 students work 12-15 sessions that last 1.5 hours each) leaded by RAPC
Contents of the intervention/activity
- Introduction, getting to know each other, self-control, the risk of drug/alcohol/tobacco use, confidence, communication, saying "no", life skills, healthy life style

Methodology and results of evaluation
- No evaluation done up to now
- "The success of work depends on the school institutions, where the groups have been trained. They (personell of institution) have to continue cooperation with trained students. It is not so in many cases.
- "Sometimes it is hard to motivate clients to stay in a group. At the beginning there are 10 students, 6 at the end of work"
- "We organized groups at our premises, but the attendance was lower as it is at school"
- RAPC have trained school social workers, who can use the programme by themselves in the institution they are working. This case has not been described.
