FreD The practical projects

The FreD project was tested and evaluated in several large-scale practical projects.

Here we present the various projects to you.

An overview of our FreD projects

FreD Next Level federal model project

FreD has been expanded for digital use in practice.

With fred_online, all FreD trainers now have access to a digital tool that allows them to deliver FreD online or as a blended course.

The design and appearance of FreD have been adapted to meet today's requirements.

FreD Next Level is a joint project funded by the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) and carried out by the Blue Cross in collaboration with blu:prevent.

Duration: 1 December 2022 to 31 December 2024

Landesprojekt Einfach FreD

FreD has been further developed for young people in simple language.

The addition and adaptation of the FreD programme to the ‘Einfach-FreD programme’ has been completed. The intervention has been adapted and supplemented for ‘people with a refugee background’ between the ages of 18 and 25.
The materials and films developed for the Einfach-FreD intervention have been compiled on the LWL cloud and are available to FreD trainers. Selected materials have been printed and can be ordered free of charge from LWL-KS.

Duration: 1 September 2019 to 31 August 2022

Funded by the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia as part of the Action Plan against Addiction in North Rhine-Westphalia.

FreD in law enforcement agencies and FreD Crystal/ATS

The federal project ‘FreD – Awareness, Application and Dissemination among Law Enforcement Authorities’ took place between 2013 and 2014. All law enforcement authorities and ministries nationwide were informed about the project.
This resulted in the BMG-funded project ‘FreD-Crystal/ATS’ (2015 to 2017), in which the handbook was adapted and then tested for a new target group – consumers of stimulants. The FreD handbook was revised and updated at the end of 2017.

FreD goes net

The project was then transferred to the European context with the FreD goes net project (2007–2010). The programme was transferred to 17 other European countries and expanded to include new settings and target groups. This resulted in a revised FreD manual. Quality standards were developed for FreD locations and for FreD trainer certification courses.

Federal model project

From 2000 to 2002, the LWL Coordination Office for Addiction led the federal model project FreD, followed by a one-year transfer phase. In 15 locations in eight federal states, access to first-time drug users was tested via the police or the judiciary. In the subsequent practical phase, additional course instructors were trained. In addition, the professional public was provided with more information.

From mid-2003 onwards, the FreD approach spread further and further across Germany.

FreD locations in Germany

More than 230 FreD locations offer FreD throughout Germany. FreD is also offered in other European countries.
